Upcoming Workshops

Yoga Posture Fundamentals

Saturday 29 June 2024

4pm-6pm

Flo Yoga Studio, West Hampstead.

Book here

This workshop is for anyone wanting to learn or refine some of the common postures practised in yoga classes.

In the first half, we'll break down the "flow" sequence including downward dog, chaturanga and upward dog. You'll learn how to vary the sequence according to your body and how to make the practice dynamic and gentle. Through simple drills, you'll improve your understanding of how to safely support the shoulders as you flow.

The second half will focus on some of the classic standing postures including the Warrior family, Side angle, Triangle and standing balances like Half Moon. You'll refine your technique and know how to adapt the poses to support your hips, lower back and hamstrings.

Throughout the two hours, you'll receive individual feedback and learn modern alignment techniques. Through experiential anatomy and understanding the target areas of each pose, you'll have the skill to make the poses work for you

ABOUTEMMA

Emma is a 500 hour accredited Yoga teacher having trained with Jeff Phenix and Susannah Hoffman for two years at triyoga, London. She has also completed further trainings in Vinyasa yoga and Qigong with Mimi Kuo-Deemer, advanced vinyasa teacher training with Jason Crandell and Yin Yoga & Mindfulness training with Sarah Lo. As well as formal training, Emma spent 6 months being mentored by senior YogaWorks teacher, Mia Togo.

Emma first began yoga to help with lower back pain, and hid in the back of class wondering why she couldn’t do what others made seem effortless. Nevertheless she kept at it and, after living in India in 2008, the practice became rooted in her life.

She draws inspiration from related practices  including strength training, mindfulness meditation and Qigong, an ancient Chinese energy cultivation practice.

Her aim is to encourage people of all ages and abilities to explore their own movement and develop a mindful and sustainable practice unique to them.

KINDWORDS
LOVELYPEOPLE

Emma’s yoga teaching is deceptively clever: she guides you through stretches after a relaxing warm-up so that you’re unaware how much you are working.

I’m in my 50’s and relatively flexible apart from ‘wear and tear’  and old injuries, nothing new there, but she’s measurably accurate at dealing with individual’s needs so it feels like you’ve had a one to one.   Emma is fun and the class isn’t so serious that you can’t make mistakes;  we learn more from them, which makes the class even better.

- Suzie H, corporate class since March 2016

When I first started yoga with Emma I was a complete novice. Emma made me feel very at ease and her wonderfully calming voice sucked me into the joy of yoga straight away.

Now I can’t get enough! She explains things very clearly so even a beginner can join in confidently, and I love the way she always gives you a harder option to push yourself more if you want to.

- Emily C, corporate class since February 2016

Emma is a helpful and supportive teacher demonstrating throughout the class as well as coming to check we are in the correct positions. When I have had injuries, or something I feel is too hard, Emma quickly shows me an alternative position so that I can continue with the class. I have learnt lots with Emma, including breathing techniques which I find myself using in everyday situations. My body has become physically stronger and I have a much better understanding of my body's strengths and limitations.

- Rachel W, corporate class since September 2015
